Shipwreck'd Yarns

Fri 27th Oct 2006

k1 Yarns is 1 Year Old! In keeping with the occasion, I have been working on an extra special birthday surprise. As some of you may already know, we have been working hard over the past few months towards the launch of our own exclusive yarn brand. I am very pleased to announce the launch of Shipwreck’d Yarns TM, an unbelievably soft, ultrafine Merino yarn that comes in both an Aran and a Chunky weight. Shipwreck’d is hand-dyed in Scotland in a range of colours inspired by the Western Isles, and is available no where else in the world, except at k1 Yarns. Shipwreck’d will go on sale tomorrow, Saturday October 28 at k1 Yarns Knitting Boutique and k1 Yarns Online.

A collection of original patterns for hand knitted and crocheted garments and accessories for Shipwreck’d, will also available soon from k1 Yarns!

Keep posted for more new yarns to be launched at k1 during the month of November!

NTL website problems

Tue 24th Oct 2006

If you are an NTL internet customer living in the Glasgow area you may be experiencing problems accessing the k1 yarns (and other NTL-linked) website. This is due to a NTL 'node breakdown' in the Glasgow area. This problem will affect NTL customers only and should not affect customers who visit our site via BT or any other internet provider. The website is functioning normally, so if you are experiencing problems we suggest that you try to use a non-NTL-linked computer for the time being.

Thanks again to everyone who helped out, and a big thanks to our friends at Miso Funky for supporting our charity event!

October Newsletter

Thu 5th Oct 2006

Dear Knitters

October is National Knitting Week month! In keeping with the season, we have some exciting events planned. You still have time to participate in our charity fundraising event for Childline (Scotland’s branch of the NSPCC). We are looking for knitters to make up items for our charity sale, which will be held at the Miso Funky Market (the West End’s favourite craft market) at Hillhead Library on Byres Rd., Saturday, October 21 from 10-4. All of the details can be found on the Big Knit Out page of the k1 Yarns website, and you will also find a free pattern for fingerless mits that is wonderful for using up scraps of left over yarn! In addition to the sale we will also be holding a Stash Swap. Just bring in any unused balls of yarn from your stash to donate to the swap and/or purchase someone else’s treasure trove for only 50 p a ball! We hope you will support this event and help us to earn loads of money to help Childline help children in distress.

Where has the time gone? It’s hard to believe that my baby is 1 year old! This month k1 Yarns celebrates its first birthday! We will be celebrating in our shop on Saturday, October 28 with a double points day! Earn 2 points for every £10 you spend on this day only. 10 points will earn a £10 voucher to spend in the shop!

We will be having a double birthday party, together with Big Knit Out as the West End knitting meetup group also celebrates 1 year of meeting up at North Star Café! Please join us at North Star Café (108 Queen Margaret Drive) for the Big Birthday Bash during National Knitting Week, Wed. Oct. 18 from 7 pm. Rik (North Star’s Manager) will be baking a birthday cake! I hope that you will join us!

On the yarn front, this month we have expanded our hugely popular Twilleys range. Freedom Spirit has been a runaway success that even Twilleys wasn’t prepared for. However, we now have new stock in all of the colours (get it while it lasts!). We have also introduced Twilleys Bulky Freedom Wool. Knit yourself cozy faster with this supersoft heavyweight yarn that is perfect for all of your bulky-weight projects. Knit garments (for the whole family) and accessories from two great pattern books!

Also new from Twilleys are two super new felted hat kits. The Baker Girl, and the Bobble Hat kits contain Twilleys Freedom Wool, which felts beautifully. Look out for additional Twilleys kits coming in November and December!

One of our most popular yarns last winter is now back in our shop, and now online! Colinette’s bulky-weight Shimmer 5 is 50 % wool and 40% cotton. The cotton gives this yarn a subtle shimmer effect that works perfectly with Colinette’s hand painted colours. Designed to knit with big needles, this yarn will knit you up a cozy jumper or scarf in not time!

For crocheters, we now have the latest issue of Interweave Crochet magazine. This magazine is the last word in fashionable crochet and contains an exciting array of patterns for autumn and winter.

The more exciting new yarns are still yet to come. Don’t miss our November Newsletter!
